Switch
A device that joins hosts within a local area network (LAN) and forwards each frame only to the port where the destination media access control (MAC) address was seen.
Appears in the course and exam description (CED): 3.1.A.23.3.B.43.2.A.2
Why it matters in Unit 3
A switch keeps a MAC address table. MAC flooding fills that table so the switch falls into broadcast mode; port security prevents it.
Example
A laptop sends a frame to a printer. The switch looks up the printer’s MAC address in its table and sends the frame out of that one port.
