AP® Cybersecurity glossary

Service set identifier (SSID)

Also called: SSID, network name

The name of a wireless network, announced in beacon frames.

Appears in the course and exam description (CED): 3.5.E.13.2.B.1

Why it matters in Unit 3

Evil twins copy or imitate a real SSID, so Unit 3 detection starts with scanning for suspicious or similar SSIDs.

Example

A scan lists School-WiFi twice, once with Wi-Fi Protected Access 3 (WPA3) and once open. The second one is a likely evil twin.
